UIC ENGAGES DOST RD Lead

The Research and Development Leadership (RD Lead) Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is part of their Accelerated R&D Program for Capacity Building of R&D Institutions and Industrial Competitiveness. It is under the Science for Change umbrella which aims to strengthen research capabilities of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Research and Development Institutions (RDIs) through experts with strong leadership, management, and innovative policy-making proficiencies as in charge.

This was to assess the readiness of UIC as a research center for functional foods and do some consultations on R&D agenda, conduct a limited face-to-face training workshop on functional foods, and mentoring and consultation services on matters related to the operation of the research center on functional foods and other deliverables.

Dr. Capanzana met with the UIC president, Sr. Ma. Marissa R. Viri, RVM; Vice President for Academics, Dr. Jo-ann Y. Solomon; Dr. Emma V. Sagarino; and SRC Director Ludivina M. Porticos.

The hosts gave a tour of the various facilities of all three campuses focusing on the laboratories of Father Selga, Bajada, and Bonifacio campuses. This was headed by the dean of UIC College of Human Environmental Sciences and Food Studies (CHEFS), Jason O. Molina. The campus tour also included documentation of facilities. The first week also held a training workshop to mentor the faculty members in preparation for the manuscript publication.

The following week became a series of allocation of information materials for the assessment of UIC as a center for functional foods research. Dr. Capanzana was given a briefing of all the research facilities. He looked into their research capabilities including the vision and mission, research priorities and policies, and their faculty and research team. The event concluded with a workshop on R&D Roadmap of the UIC as Center for Functional Food Research and Innovation. Eric Jude E. Recentes
